7 Ways Veneers Can Enhance Your Smile

7 Ways Veneers Can Enhance Your Smile

Picture-perfect smiles rarely happen naturally. Most of us have at least one smile flaw that makes us feel self-conscious and less than confident about our pearly whites. The good news: Veneers provide a great solution in just a couple of office visits.

At Riverdale Dental Arts, Sheldon Kupferman, DDS, and his team offer durable, beautiful dental veneers to correct cosmetic defects, helping every patient feel confident about their smile and overall appearance. Here are seven ways our state-of-the-art veneers can help you look your best.

7 issues veneers can correct

Veneers are popular in part because they’re so versatile, dramatically improving your smile by correcting an array of cosmetic flaws — including these seven.

1. Chipped teeth

Teeth are strong, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be damaged. Chipped teeth most often happen when you bite on really hard foods or when you have a fall or other accident. Veneers restore the appearance of chipped teeth so your smile continues to look healthy and beautiful.

2. Cracked teeth

Cracked teeth don’t just mar your smile’s appearance, they also make it easier for decay-causing bacteria to reach the interior part of your tooth. Without treatment, a cracked tooth can increase the risk of decay and eventual tooth loss.

Veneers restore your tooth’s healthy appearance while also strengthening the tooth structure, blocking bacteria and reducing the risk of further damage.

3. Discolored teeth

Custom-tinted veneers can be a perfect solution for stains located deep inside a tooth — areas that can’t be reached with professional whitening treatments. When applied to a discolored tooth, a dental veneer instantly restores your smile so it looks beautiful and healthy.

4. Gaps between teeth

Gaps aren’t just a cosmetic issue. Those tiny spaces between your teeth are notoriously hard to clean, and that means they provide the ideal environment for sticky plaque and decay-causing bacteria. By closing gaps, veneers improve the appearance of your smile while also eliminating spaces that can lead to cavities.

5. Teeth that look too small

A beautiful smile relies a lot on symmetry — an ideal ratio between your teeth and gum tissue. Teeth that are abnormally small reveal more gum than normal, leading to what’s sometimes called a “gummy smile.” Because they can be custom-shaped for your mouth size and shape, veneers are an ideal solution for “right-sizing” your teeth and eliminating a gummy smile.

6. Crooked or twisted teeth

Significant alignment issues are best treated with orthodontics. But if you have one or two teeth that are crooked or “out of line” with your other teeth, veneers can give you the cosmetic results of orthodontic treatment without the long, costly investment required by braces and aligners.

7. Worn or misshapen teeth

Few things age a smile more dramatically than worn or misshapen teeth. With veneers, you can restore the contours of your healthy teeth, so your smile looks younger, healthier, and more attractive.

What to expect during your veneer treatment

Veneers typically require two appointments: one to prepare your teeth for the veneers and one to apply the veneers to your tooth surfaces.

At the first appointment, Dr. Kupferman removes a small amount of your tooth material to make room for your new veneer. This step is essential for ensuring the veneer rests evenly with the surfaces of your neighboring teeth.

He makes an impression of your tooth to serve as a model for your new veneer. Then, he applies a temporary veneer to protect your tooth while you wait for your veneer to be crafted at a special dental lab.

During your second visit, Dr. Kupferman removes the temporary veneer and applies the permanent veneer with a strong dental adhesive, shaping it for a perfect fit. Afterward, you care for your veneer just like your other teeth, with regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental checkups.
