Are you interested in keeping cavities at bay? If so, good for you! Cavities are a serious and dangerous dental issue that should be avoided at all costs. Cavities form when plaque and sugars create acids that attack the teeth. This wears down tooth enamel and underlying layers. If you’re not careful, cavities can even result in the loss of your tooth. So, our dentist, Dr. Sheldon Kupferman, is happy about your interest in preventing cavities. To help you do so, he encourages you to do the following things:
-Keep up on oral hygiene: It’s important to brush your teeth twice a day (like every morning and night), floss your teeth once a day and rinse your mouth daily. As you do these things, use fluoridated products, like fluoride toothpaste and fluoride mouthwash. These things can clean your smile as well as strengthen your teeth.
-Attend your checkups: Your dental checkups are very important when preventing cavities. This is because the cleaning treatment removes the plaque your toothbrush could not reach and because the fluoride treatment nourishes the smile.
-Try to limit cavity-causing foods: Sugary and starchy foods tend to promote cavities, so it’s best to limit those foods and stick to tooth-healthy foods, like dairy products, fruits and vegetables.
