There are several things that can injure your mouth. This could be something as simple as grinding your teeth at night or a dental accident. Sometimes a more significant oral trauma can befall you, causing serious damage to one or more teeth. The severity of the problem will largely influence the treatment or restoration method advocated by Dr. Sheldon Kupferman.

A chip or minor dental fracture might be repairable by a simple filling or a dental crown restoration. A tooth with a traumatized pulp or root might require a root canal. In the case of an extremely damaged tooth, your dentist might advocate a total dental extraction. This is even more likely to be the case if the tooth was knocked out or if the socket was severely damaged.

In time, your gums will heal and Dr. Sheldon Kupferman can help you understand your restoration options. If you aren’t comfortable with the invasive oral surgery required for a dental implant, he might recommend a standard dental bridge restoration.

This is a replacement tooth that is fused to a pair of crowns on each end that will eventually be anchored on abutments formed from the neighboring teeth.

To create these anchor points, your dentist will use a drill to remove the tooth enamel from each tooth. Your dentist will then create an impression of the area, including the corresponding teeth in your bite. This will be sent to a special dental lab where your final bridge will be produced.

At the end of the appointment, temporary crowns will be cemented over each abutment to protect them while you wait.

We will call you in for a brief second appointment when your bridge is ready. The temporary crowns will be removed and the bridge will be secured in place with a strong dental adhesive.
